3 Things to Eat For a Fit Belly

So, I'll admit that over the holidays (that aren't officially over til next week) I've been stuffing my face like Santa was stuffing stockings. Although it's been delicious, it hasn't been pretty.

We got the new website rolled out and ready for prime time on Christmas Eve, but other than that things have been kind of quiet and focused on festivities. This is why I found myself in a food coma on the couch the other day watching Dr. Oz in my elastic waistband pants.

I'm not a regular viewer, but the topic that day caught my interest because I'm definitely dedicated to taking off the holiday poundage beginning Jan 1. This means making healthier selections when using VCS at work. Yep, we use our own Virtual Cafeteria Service at the Waiter.com batcave! Just makes life easier for everybody, especially our beloved admins who already have a thousand things to do besides hunting everyone down to see what they want for lunch. Anyway....

Here are the three superfoods that Dr. Oz claims can blast belly fat. I'm going to be incorporating them into my diet and selecting healthier menu choices from our restaurants during our daily lunch delivery. I'll let you know how it goes!

  • Miso. Dr Oz said that one of the reasons that women in Japan might be so skinny is because they eat so much Miso Soup. He said by eating about a cup of it daily you can reduce triglycerides in your body. Check. I can order that from plenty of our restaurants.
  • Goldenberries. Doctor Oz said that Golden Berries are a vegetable that come from Brazil, but they are becoming more and more popular in America. You can find either Dried Goldenberries or the whole form (if your supermarket carries them fresh). In addition to having a unique taste, Golden Berries are packed with B-Complex Vitamins that are essential for your metabolism. He said to try eating 1/4 cup of Golden Berries every day. I think I'm going to get some dried ones to keep at my desk and add to salads. Let's face it, I do not have time to pack my lunch every day.
  • Sauerkraut. Unfortunately, not on hot dogs. He said sauerkraut is great at getting rid of belly fat because fermented foods contain probiotics that control how our gut metabolizes food and how get calories into our bodies. He said if we don't have healthy bacteria in our guts, then our bodies tend to absorb more calories. Personally, I only eat sauerkraut on hot dogs or with other overly processed meats that probably aren't helping shrink my spare tire. So, he suggests adding it onto a turkey sandwich with whole grain bread. Easy enough because we often have Togo's Sandwich shop as an option. I can do this.

Anyone else resolving to lose weight in 2012? I'll keep you posted on my progress, but in the meantime feel free to leave a comment with any other advice or suggestions! Happy New Year!
